I was inspired by the idea of nature; the nature around us that speaks of God's creation, but also human nature. Jesus was speaking in the Beatitudes of how we are meant to live our lives. In many ways they tell us to deny our instinct toward comfort in order to receive clarity of mind and heart to hear the will of God.
I worked on this through the 2016 Lent and Easter season. Though it is paradoxical to say, crucified Jesus is the man of beatitude, a truly happy man. The beatitudes are a new law to help discipline our desires, minds and bodies as to make real not temporary happiness possible.
There is so much wrapped up in these few verses. The instructions to get to heaven are outlined in these verses. A life time can be spent pondering the meaning of the Beatitudes, trying to apply it to our own lives just as Jesus did. I know my perception on life has changed over the past few months while I designed the typography and stitched the words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount.
I pray my pattern may inspire others to look at the words of Jesus in a new way, to hear the will of God in their hearts minds with a clarity that had previously not existed.
